100 kWp Photovoltaic System with 645 kWh Batteries - SMM Commerce, Sofia

The new photovoltaic installation for our partner SMM COMMERCE is complete. The company, known for the production, processing, and trade of meat, meat products, and meat preparations, now has a next-generation energy system that ensures high efficiency, security, and independence. The system includes 100 kWp of photovoltaic panels, 645 kWh of batteries (3 × 215 kWh), a 100 kW DC inverter, AC connection with grid balancing, as well as hourly monitoring and intelligent charge and discharge management.

We integrated the existing installation of 200 kWp panels and six Huawei inverters into our new system. All components work within a shared energy ecosystem, where excess energy is stored in the batteries and used during periods of high electricity prices. This leads to cost optimization and stabilization of the power supply during grid fluctuations. The enterprise now has a high degree of independence in case of outages or disturbances in the power transmission system.

The batteries are built with high-class CATL cells, a world leader in industrial battery solutions. The system is equipped with fire detection, fire suppression, and an independent air conditioning unit that maintains an optimal operating temperature for a longer battery lifespan. Each battery module features its own software, unified through a master controller that coordinates the operation between the grid inverters and the battery inverters, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability for the entire energy system.

The project was implemented under Procedure No. BG06RDNP001-4.018 "Targeted intake for investments and activities ensuring the protection of environmental components, including RES," under Sub-measure 4.2 "Investments in processing/marketing of agricultural products" of Measure 4 "Investments in physical assets" of the Rural Development Program 2014–2020.
